Children's Book Portfolio
In this studio class, participants will become familiar with classic and contemporary children’s book illustration. We will study current childrens book markets, including picture books, mass market, young adult novels, and fantasy. We will discuss what makes a piece of art successful and appropriate for a childrens book by focusing on technique, composition, atmosphere, setting, and visual narrative. Students will finish 4-8 pieces for their portfolio, and will have the chance to develop their own stories and characters.
