This vigorous, skill-building course is designed to give the student a solid, foundational approach to drawing and painting the human form from life through the use of weekly demos and lectures, with plenty of in-class time for mindful practice and constructive feedback to guide your way. The first four weeks well focus on drawing and the introduction of underlying design principles and well be applying these ideas to painting during the second half of the course. Expect discussions regarding the properties of natural form, light and color, painting strategies and palette management, as well as many in-class exercises to enrich and strengthen your drawing and painting skills throughout the course. Prerequisite: Figure drawing or Atelier I.
Instructor: Laura Nothern
Laura Nothern joins PNCA after studying at Studio Escalier in Paris, France. She specializes in a Contemporary Classical approach to drawing and painting the figure. She brings more than 30 years of experience to her classrooms. Ms Nothern has been exhibiting her paintings in US galleries since 1996 and her work can be found in private collections internationally.
