This class is designed as an introduction to letterpress printing that focuses on the distinct power of combining text and image. It also serves as a refresher for those who want to review and practice basic skills. Working on collaborative and individual projects, participants will learn how to operate a Vandercook proof press. Processes covered include hand-setting metal type, multiple layers, transparent inks, wood type, photopolymer plates, and relief printmaking including some experimental techniques. Participants will engage and interact with the printed multiple, culminating in a portfolio exchange of a print from everyone in class.
