Atelier I is the foundation course in PNCA’s Atelier program. Students draw from living models, masterworks, and the program’s collection of antique casts. Unlike other drawing classes, Atelier techniques instruct artists in how to create two dimensional art that looks real to the viewer. Students are immersed in the practice of sight-size methods of drawing an object exactly how it appears to the artist, on a one-to-one scale.
It is typical for students to engage in each level of study for a year or longer before advancing to more advanced techniques or Atelier II.
