Build your own Ukulele. Starting with the traditional wood for the ukulele, koa, you will learn and construct a tenor ukulele. Held in the PNCA woodshop, you will learn woodworking and luthier techniques including, using handtools, powertools, bracing and gluing techniques. No experience is required and the class is organized to satisfy beginning and advanced woodworkers. Tonewood and supplies included. Prerequisite: None.
Instructor: Frank Irby
Frank Irby spent much of his youth as an Army brat‚ living in the Southern states and Okinawa with his family. After a stint as a business major, he followed his heart and completed the Master of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. For the past 25 years, he has invested his energy in teaching and mentoring students in a range of three-dimensional courses in the Sculpture Department at PNCA.
