Summer 2020 Youth Classes Are Now Open!
Dear Friends, Artists and Learners,
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently rethinking our Summer term. Some classes may be cancelled this term, while others will move to an online format.
Please take care of yourselves and others during this trying time.
PNCA’s youth classes in Art + Design give young artists the chance to explore their skills in studios equipped for college students. PNCA is in the heart of the Portland’s art scene and minutes away from galleries, museums, and everything else that makes our region exciting. Our courses encourage students to grow into knowledgeable practicing visual artists who can contribute to the ongoing dialogue in art & shaping of our culture. Our team designs learning environments that are safe spaces where all students feel respected & that their ideas & art are valued. Our Summer program creates an immersive environment of art education through weekly themed programming.
//Young artists aged 4 to 6 can join classes that combines fun & learning with visual arts. Each session begins with an animated discussion to develop creative ideas, followed by hands-on projects. Imagination and sensory awareness are encouraged through activities with mediums such as paint, clay, paper, charcoal and pastels.
//smARTworks, designed for students 7 to 11, is an engaging art experience that helps young artists increase their understanding of what art can be. smARTworks is organized around the idea of using investigative inquiry & play to teach students learn key concepts & artistic principles. The goal of each class is to inspire collaboration & the cultivation of an individual’s unique gifts.
//design.labs, created for artists 12 to 14, introduces artists to key concepts, methods and tools in design. Students are assigned work that requires integrating design with concepts in science, technology, engineering, and math. Students apply this type of thinking to the development of products, services and the built environment.
Please note: all art materials are supplied.
