Young Artists: Painting+Portraits 13-16
This course will cover the basics of creating portraits with oil and acrylic paint. Portraiture specific skills, such as understanding facial proportions, using body language, and mixing flesh tones will be practiced. various painting techniques including grisaille, glazing, wet-into-wet, and varnishing will be introduced. Basic sketching techniques and the visual elements will also be covered. In addition to these fantastic new skills, students will leave the class with at least two finished portraits.
Instructor Kendra Larson received her BFA from PNCA and her MFA in Painting at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has exhibited her work all over the country including Lewis and Clark College, the University of Minnesota’s Nash Gallery and the Overture Center for the Arts.

Kendra Larson received her BFA from PNCA (2004) and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison (2009). She has exhibited her work all over the world including Augen Gallery (Portland, OR), Overture Center for the Arts (Madison, WI), Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (San Francisco, CA), Wairarapa Museum of Art (New Zealand). She currently teaches at PNCA and Portland State University.
